In winter hazardous driving conditions can happen more frequently -with drivers being at higher risk.

For this, car owners should plan ahead their journey before jumping into their vehicles.

Luckily, a driving expert has shared five tips to avoid a mishap during freezing conditions.

The content creator posted a TikTok video to explain motorists how to drive safely this winter.

On the video the man said: “Five tips when driving in the snow. Many don’t do the last one.”

He first recommended drivers to make sure key parts of the vehicle are kept clear from snow and mud.

“Ensure all windows lights and plates are visible,” he said.

Driving without full visibility is both illegal and dangerous, for you and other drivers.

You should make sure to de-icing correctly and check your washer is clean, your windscreen and windows clear.

And ensure the wiper blades are clean, to prevent smears and damage from debris.

To avoid a dangerous hazard while driving, the motorist advises to “clear snow off the roof and the bonnet”.

When driving on icy roads or snowy weather the motorist advises to always “break gently”.

Motorists should be careful when overtaking vehicles while on speed and watch out for snowploughs.

You should drive at a slow speed in on the higher gear as possible and accelerate slowly.

Motorists should particularly slowly on bends as it can be easier to lose control.

You should always brake progressively on the straight before you reach a bend.

The tiktoker said: “Change gears sooner and drive in higher gears.”

Also, make sure your heating system fans are to keep it circulating and stop your windows from misting up on the move.

The freezing temperature outside versus the warmer temperature inside will cause condensation on the windows, so you’ll need to find the right temperature to rid the screen of mist.

Driving with misty windows could get you a £1,000 fine and three points on your license.

It comes as learner drivers are only just discovering a simple hack that can de-ice a windscreen in seconds.

In a clip posted to TikTok by expert driving instructor Mike Hinton, motorists are shown three simple steps to de-mist a windscreen that includes a ‘hidden’ button many simply don’t know about.

Mike begins the clip by pointing to a button that can be found in the middle of his car’s dashboard display.
