But the midfielder’s goal came in true David Beckham fashion as he picked up the ball in the centre circle.

Shelvey then lifted his head and saw the Istanbulspor goalkeeper off his line.

He then pinged an incredible chipped ball forward which found its way into the top corner of the net.

The former Liverpool star was then swarmed by team-mates in celebration.

Fans were left in awe of the goal, with one saying: “Incredible how effortless he makes this look.”

A second said: “Insane goal.”

A third said: “Shelvey with a worldie. Sensational.”

Another fan said: “Wowowow.”

While a fifth joked: “hide him from Man Utd before they send a bid.”

Shelvey has attempted the strike in the past, but has not always seen it come off.

He famously scored a remarkably long-range goal while starring for Swansea in 2014.

Compatriot Harry Kane recently scored from the halfway line in the German league, so this seems to be a bit of a trend among English players overseas.

Overall he has scored 23 goals in the Premier League from 278 appearances.
