Major EV brand reveals new deal with charging company to give customers EIGHT years free charge… but there’s a catch

A CHARGING station network is offering FREE power for eight years to customers… but there’s a very pricey catch.

The ultra-rapid EV charging company Ionity, which currently boasts over 500 sites across 24 European countries, has a brilliant offer that’s exclusive to drivers of the Rimac Nevera e-hypercar – a beast of a motor that costs over £2million.

The gorgeous Nevera, which has broken numerous records – including recently cracking the Guinness World Record for its eye-watering speed while driving in reverse – is the fastest production electric car in the world.

Boasting an insane 1877bhp, the EV can reach a top speed of 256mph thanks to the front and rear wheels having a single-speed gearbox each, allowing full torque to be applied left or right of each axle.

Production of the Nevera is limited to just 150 units, making it one of the most sought-after hyperelectric cars in the world.

But if you’re lucky enough – and wealthy enough – to own one, you can now power it up at any Ionity charging station with eight years of unlimited free charging on offer.

As part of the collaboration, Ionity have agreed to operate a HPC charging park on the Rimac campus near Zagreb, Croatia.

Ionity CEO Michael Hajesch said: “The partnership with Rimac perfectly reflects our endeavour for performance, reliability, and sustainability.

“It is based on common values and the pioneering work we do in our respective fields to enable and advance electric mobility.”

This comes after the news that sales of second-hand EVs has doubled in one year… but concerns have been raised over the UK’s public charging infrastructure.

According to the latest figures, nearly twice as many used electric cars are being sold – with 34,021 pure battery EVs changing hands between July and September.

But with the growing demand for electric-powered vehicles, SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes has now urged the goverment to support EV infrastructure.

He said: “The used car market continues to grow strongly, with re-energised supply unlocking demand for pre-owned electric vehicles – the result being twice as many motorists switching to zero-emission motoring in the quarter.

“Maintaining this momentum requires growth in the new car market, to boost supply to the used sector and cement this success.

“Equally important is the urgent need for charging infrastructure rollout so that all drivers can have confidence in being able to charge whenever and wherever they need.”

Meanwhile, EV drivers have been warned about buying home charging cables online over fears they could cause dangerous issues.

Consumer experts at WhatCar? raised urgent safety concerns after testing out three of the gadgets.
