‘My anxiety has won’: Machine Gun Kelly hits back at criticism over interview

Machine Gun Kelly has hit out at those criticising the star for an ‘awkward’ interview snippet that has gone viral online.

On Sunday at the F1 Grand Prix in Brazil, the rapper was stopped by former Formula One driver and Sky Sports reporter Martin Brundle for an interview.

After struggling to hear the reporter and answering some questions about his career and industry, the rocker made a light-hearted attempt to encourage Brundle to perform “air piano” alongside him as he performed air guitar.

Brundle refused, claiming he had to move on to other interviews which led to the star walking off and giving a thumbs down, a moment that has since become viral online.

“My anxiety has won. i hate being in public,” the star posted on X after seeing several online users criticising the clip.

The Bloody Valentine singer responded to a series of posts mocking his responses and demeanour, reportedly tweeting “my vibe is ‘the worst’ how?” in response to a since-deleted post.

Kelly replied to another since-deleted post: “Because someone put a microphone in my face essentially forcing me to do a random interview when I was just trying to enjoy an event? Because car engines were so loud I couldn’t hear him? please tell me more about why I’m the worst.”

In the aftermath of the popularity of the clip, Brundle himself responded with a tweet, sharing photos of MGK with his girlfriend Megan Fox, and Meghan Thee Stallion posing together.

“Finally, my claim to fame, I’ve met two of these three people,” he wrote.

“I do appreciate them taking some time out on the grid for our great sport … I hope they didn’t find me too weird.”

Brundle has a history of awkward celebrity run-ins, so much so that the F1 altered broadcasting rules on the grid to suit the reporter.

”There have been new rules introduced, that any celebrities on the grid must not have bodyguards any longer,” Brundle said in 2021, when the rule was introduced, according to The Sun.

“It must be the ‘Brundle clause’, and they’re obliged to talk to me,” he continued. “I sort of like it if they ignore me, to be honest.”

He added: “I like to call out some of the celebs that I think are just using the grid a little bit if I’m honest. They don’t really have a passion. I know there are millions of fans at home going ‘I should be on that grid. I’m a massive Formula 1 fan, not them.'”
